One of the first campaigns we recommend setting up is the Welcome campaign.
This campaign is important because it allows you to thank your users for downloading the app and helps them discover your features/products.
To create a welcome campaign, you can follow the 2 methods below.
1. Automation
Trigger
In order to target users who have opened the app for the first time, you will have to choose the trigger “First seen”.
Type of message
Select the type of message “Push notification”
Timing
If you want to send the notification several minutes / hours / days after the user has opened the app, you can manage this in the timing section by adding a delay.
In our example, we will send the notification 1 day after the user has opened the app for the first time.
In our example, we will send the message between 9 am and 6 pm, 1 day after the user has opened the app for the first time. If they open the app outside the available window we will send it at the next available time.
Message Review
Your campaign is now set up, you just have to activate it.
Here is a video to show you how to set up message settings on Airship UI.
2. Welcome Series (Journey)
A journey is a series of messages that are initiated by a single automation trigger.
You can use our “welcome series” template to automatically create a journey with default triggers to send your first notifications.
Edit message
You can edit the content and delivery by clicking on the three dots and selecting “Edit Message”
Delay & conditions
By default, the welcome series is programmed to send the first notification 1 day after the first app open and to send a second message 3 days after the first notification has been sent.
Test your journey
Before setting your journey live, we recommend that you first test it on a test audience by following the steps described.
Message Review
Your campaign is now set up, you just have to activate it.

How to add web channel in your welcome journey
Go to the message editor in the first step, click on the three-dot-button and select “Edit Message”.
Click on the settings icon at the top left corner.
Select the web channel and choose the Channel Coordination (documentation). We advise you to select “Fan Out” coordination to target all your users independently of the channel.
Save, continue and configure your message. You can edit different messages between the 2 channels.
Please note that these steps must be reproduced on all the messages of the journey.
Test and review your campaign. If everything is good for you, activate your message.

Best practices
-
Define an available window to avoid disturbing users on specific days, too early in the morning, or too late in the evening.
-
Using the "Journey" feature, you can combine push and in-app notifications. You can enrich your welcome campaign with in-app discovery to show the main features.
-
Do not hesitate to space the messages a few days apart to make the user return to the application.
-
Use the Welcome Campaign messages to encourage users to log in to their customer account. Learn more about Login Incentive here.
