Device receives GCM intent, but fails to launch application.

My application receives push notification correctly when recently used, but after roughly a week of inactivity the application no longer gets the notifications. The device log shows that the intent is received, but the application seems to be unable to receive the intent. Apparently, this message is often received when sending notifications to applications that have been force killed (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/11902947/broadcast-intent-callback-result-cancelled-forintent), but my application has not been force killed. What might cause this behavior?
