macOS Push Notifications and the REST API

Hi there,

I am creating a cross-platform application. Combination of iOS, watchOS and macOS.

As a result, to reuse code, I want to use the REST API from Urban Airship.

Looks like the REST API is pretty extensive and I would have everything I need. However, I can't find a way to register a macOS device (or any for that matter except Blackberry).

The docs say:
"One of the primary duties of the Urban Airship mobile SDKs is to register device identifiers with Urban Airship. Because this process is handled automatically by the SDK, there is no reason to manually register device IDs with Urban Airship via our APIs, except in the following case:"

The one case mentioned is Blackberry. What about macOS? How do I register a macOS 'device'?

The iOS SDK doesn't seem to be cross-platform either.

Thank you! :)

Didn't find what you were looking for?

  • Hi Krisjanis,

At this time, you cannot target Macs for push notifications through the use of our iOS SDK or API. With that being said, you might be interested in signing up for the beta of our Mobile Growth Platform. While the current state of our APIs and SDKs are more focused on mobile devices alone, the Mobile Growth Platform beta will allow you to send notifications to any addressable device through the use of open channels.

You can sign up for the beta of our Mobile Growth Platform here: Mobile Growth. This page also contains more information on which features we plan on releasing as a part of this platform.

Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.

    Best regards,

    Jenn Miller
