How do i create tags?

I recently created my account and tested push notifications on my app. It worked fine. But i dont understand how do we create tags. Can someone help me understand this? Cant we create tags without using the airship dashboard

    Hello,

    This is Sean with Urban Airship Technical Support.

    You do not need to create Tags before assigning them to a device. The first time a Tag is assigned it will implicitly create the Tag within our system.
