Named user tags not propagating

This is similar to, but unrelated to another post that I made yesterday. I submitted a support request last week but it went unanswered, so I'm trying here.

I'm seeing a consistent behavior in which tags added to named users show up in the API immediately, but when push notifications are scheduled or sent from the dashboard targeting those tags, users do not receive any push notifications. If I try again sometime in the future, somewhere on the order of a day or so, then I can target named users with those tags without issue.

Is there some sort of delay with these named users tags propagating to other parts of the system? Is this a service issue (such as what was noted last week on the service status page) or is it intentional?

Didn't find what you were looking for?

  • Hi Zach,

This issue should be fixed now. Are you still seeing a delay in the tags being associated to your Named User properly? If so, would you be able to let us know what App you're testing on so we can investigate?

  • Hi Michael,

We are seeing the tags show up on the named users instantly as far as the API is concerned, but there is definitely still a delay before those tags seem to "take effect". If a named user had a particular tag added yesterday, for example, and another nearly identical named user had the same tag added today, an audience targeting that tag alone would only send a notification to the first user today. Tomorrow the exact same audience would include the second user.

We've seen this on two app's so far (we have multiple environments). The app key we last tested with is ewPTWr1MQYSAsbt4l6mFFg

    Thank you.

  • Zach,

I did some testing, and it does look like there still is a delay. It looks like it might be related to the previous issue that was on the service status page.

I'm going to escalate this to our Engineers and we'll get crackin' on it! I'll update you as soon as I hear back from them.

  • Hi Michael,

Has the issue causing the delay been identified? I hadn't seen any updates on the service status page, so I wasn't sure.

    Thank you!

  • Zach,

My apologies, I was out of the office and just got back today.

I checked with our Engineering team today, and it looks like they have made a recent deploy to fix that issue and will be working to write a backfill for the old updates. They did note that new updates should go through straight away.

Would mind testing and letting me know if it looks better on your side?

  • Hi Michael,

It looks like the named user updates are propagating properly now. I was able to add a tag to a named user and send them a push via that tag less than a minute later. Thanks!
