I'm seeing a significant delay on a couple of iOS push notifications I sent using the API. It's been an hour and a half and they've still not finished sending, although I see that a few are going out every 10 minutes or so. I've never had this problem before, the whole send usually completes within a couple of minutes.
Are there any rate limits we need to be aware of when it comes to sending notifications, like if they're sent too close together, or too many are sent within a month?

Do you happen to have the Push IDs and timestamps for those pushes that were delayed? We can look on our end to see if there were any issues with our service that might have caused this.
We don't have any rate limits in place, unless you've specifically enabled throttling for your app/account from our Support team. This would affect all pushes for the app, which doesn't sound like the case here.
I'm not sure where to find the push IDs specifically, they were done through the API. Here are the links from our activity log, I hope that helps:

I'm not seeing any delays in our system at the time of those sends. I do however see a couple of devices that had a dropped push due to the device being uninstalled, which would be expected for uninstalled devices.
Do you happen to know how you're tracking the delays in the push? Are certain internal devices not receiving the push after some time? If so, would you happen to have the Channel Id for those devices? I can see if those line up to the devices I saw in our logs.
Additionally, are you still seeing this situation occur?
One last thing I do want to mention is we do throttle the alerting sends (lock screen notification) for Message Center messages. This is to ensure that when the user taps on the notification that it directs the user to the Message Center once it is available. This shouldn't be beyond a few minutes at most.
We typically see full delivery of our push notifications within a few minutes. We deliver to about 4,300 recipients and we all usually get our notifications within 2-5 minutes. However, we were seeing delays of well over 2 hours for those that I've referenced. I would watch them in the activity log, and I'd see a few hundred getting delivered every 10 minutes or so, so it took a long time to finish.

Looks like as of this morning there is quite the lag in delivery, which may have affected the sends you're referencing. Though it's resolved now, I'd be curious to know if you're still experiencing this issue?

The one we sent finally finished sending, but it took at least a couple of hours to complete. I notice that the status dashboard says the issue is resolved. How are we going to know for sure that this is ready to try again?

I've received confirmation from our Engineering team that things are running as they should, and we've done extensive testing to alleviate concerns that this might happen again.
To be clear, we can expect to send another notification and for it to deliver within a few minutes, as we've been accustomed to seeing?
That is correct.
Resurrecting, we are seeing the same delays today on push notifications. The status screen doesn't say that anything is off. Is anyone else experiencing delivery delays?

I've checked our graphs. iOS sends right now seem to be steady on our end. Android sends appear to be a few minutes delayed, but otherwise normal traffic.
Do you know how long your delays are and when you noticed the delays?
The delay was several hours before it finished, specifically to Iphone users. It looks like it finished now, but I was watching the delivery and it was creeping along.

Ah, you had a Message Center message tied with a push.
We do throttle those pushes so that users who receive the Message Center message will be able to tap on the push to be brought into the Message Center. So, you may have seen the pushes go out more slowly than the Message Center messages in order to ensure users don't go into an empty Message Center.
Also, it may be worth to note that the dashboard reports are not real-time. So, while pushes may be sent out pretty immediate, this doesn't mean the reports information is going to be reported immediately, so this could be reporting metrics trickling in rather than the pushes being sent slowly.
The delay was specifically in people receiving them. We have several internal users who reported not getting the message for more than an hour, while I got mine within a couple of minutes.

For the internal folks, do we know whether or not their devices are connected to wi-fi networks that are not throttling or blocking APNS ports?
Also, keep in mind as well cellular connectivity can affect delivery as well.
There are a number of delivery troubleshooting steps I would recommend going through first, noted here, when checking for notification delivery for internal devices.
